After graduating with a BFA in painting and printmaking from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Catharine operated a highly successful portrait photography studio from 1974-2009. During that time, she worked with medium format cameras using black and white and color film. While doing much of her own black and white printing, she also explored alternative processes such as platinum/palladium printing, bromoil, photo-gravures and hand coloring with oil on black and white photographs.
In 2010 Catharine decided to pursue her personal fine art full time and embraced the world of digital photography, exploring exciting new ways to create imagery. In her current work she uses archival pigment prints as well as paint and collage to enhance the photomontage visual stories that she creates.
Her work has appeared in Silvershotz, B&W Magazine, numerous galleries in both group and solo shows and was a Critical Mass finalist, Prints are available in limited editions as well as in a limited edition fine art press book. She is a member of the Orange County Artist Guild, The Durham Art Guild and often collaborates with other artists on special projects. In addition to her photographic work Catharine continues to create striking, bold abstract paintings utilizing all of her artistic tools to express herself.
