Workshop with Kamil Vojnar and Joyce Wilson
(1/30/2013) I have just returned from an intimate four-day workshop with Kamil Vojnar and Joyce Wilson in Santa Barbara, California, where I was thrilled to learn about Kamil’s intriguing finishing process and Joyce’s fine gold leaf technique.
In 2007, several of us had a chance to visit Kamil’s gallery in St. Remy de Provence, France on a photography trip and I have been a fan ever since.
Kamil’s process implements layers of wax, solvents and paints to enhance photo collages.
The final images allude to mystery and dimension, with an Old World charm. This technique is a nice compliment to the antiqued feel of my photomontage imagery.
Joyce is one of my photography mentors who currently serves as an instructor of alternative processes in photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California.
It was an honor to study with these two widely known artists who are truly masters of their craft.
I have already began incorporating the techniques in some new images that I plan to exhibit at Through This Lens in early March.
Stay tuned for more details on the Through This Lens exhibit!
